Vaccines

Standard

Baby O just recently got her 12 moth vaccines. Yes, they were a little late because we moved and had to establish care at a new pediatrician.

***Disclaimer: I am very open minded about vaccines. I lean pro-vaccine because I do understand the science behind it, and do believe that it is a good thing. I also lean anti-vaccine because I don’t necessarily trust vaccine makers to put the best things in the vaccines, nor all doctors, nor do I trust in many people the safety and well-being of my child. Nevertheless; I trust in God. I trust in His timing and His will. Therefore; we vaccinate.***

All her previous vaccinations had gone relatively well to-date. O’s Mommy and I were concerned about the MMR and Varicella; because they were the two live vaccines. O’s Mommy asked the doctor about spacing them out and they said that was something that they didn’t do. So, we went ahead and got her the vaccines.

Next thing we know, she starts developing the rash over the weekend, and has a fever. The paper said to expect this, so we give her some Tylenol to help ease her discomfort. The she starts scratching. The baby never scratches. We call the night hotline and they say if she has a rash and fever for 3 days or so, then bring her in. A few days, O’s Mommy calls and gets an appointment because she is still rashed. Turns out she had a reaction to the Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine that only 3% of children get.

It would be my family’s luck, right?

Anyway, despite the scare we still believe that vaccinating is one of the best ways we have of keeping our child healthy and happy. If you choose not to vaccinate, then that is your choice, just like to vaccinate my little girl is mine.
